Your Library Card

Who can get a library card, how to apply, and how to use your library card.

Policies and Procedures for Obtaining a Library Card

  • Anyone can apply for a library card at the Bayard Public Library.

  • Cards are retained at the library, however you may request a card to carry with you.

  • Cards are valid for a period of three years.

  • Apply for your library card at the circulation desk.

  • A valid identification card may be requested.

  • Remote access privileges may be requested at any time.

How to Use My Library Card

       Loan Periods:

              Movies are loaned for 4 days (no renewals)

              Equipment is loaned for 2 days (no renewals)

              Interlibrary Loans have varied loan periods

              Books, Magazines and all other items are loaned for 2 weeks.


              Renewals can be made in person, by phone,  e-mail, or remote

              access privileges.

              Renewals on Interlibrary loans is varied.

              No renews on movies.

        Returning Items:

              A book return is provided at the front door for after-hours returns

        Reserves and Holds:

              Requests for reserves and holds may be done in person, by

              phone, by e-mail, or via remote access patron privileges.

        Reciprocal Borrowing

              Any card holder of the Bayard Public Library is allowed

              Open Access privileges which means they may use their

              Bayard library card to borrow books at any other open

              access library in the state of Iowa.  Ask a librarian for
